VITA In-Ceram YZ
UPDATE: NEW LARGE 85/40 Blocks now available
VITA has produced three new block sizes: the YZ-14, designed for single tooth substructures, and the VITA In-Ceram YZ 65/40 and YZ 85/40, larger blocks that are best for multi-unit bridge substructures and stack milling of multiple single-unit restorations.
The VITA YZ-14 is the smallest block size of the In-Ceram YZ product line (13×13x14mm), making it ideal for single tooth substructures for the anterior and posterior area. Because of its size, the VITA YZ-14 permits efficient use of the material, offering economic efficiency for inLab users with small milling systems. The blocks are available either non-colored or pre-colored in shade LL1. The pre-shaded blocks eliminate the need for any manual coloration of the substructures, while non-colored blocks can be shaded using the VITA YZ Coloring Liquid.
The VITA YZ 65/40 and YZ 85/40 are ideal for multi-unit bridge substructures and can accommodate up to 10 bridge units with up to two adjacent pontics. These larger blocks are indicated for stack milling of multiple single tooth restorations, offering efficient and economic processing with the Sirona inLab software (version 3.60).

A powerful, esthetic combination of VITA YZ veneered with VITAVM 9 porcelain.
VITA In-Ceram® has been a leading all-ceramic restorative material for over 14 years, with extraordinarily successful long-term clinical results. VITA In-Ceram for CEREC is milled from industrially-produced blocks. Combined with the latest ceramic developments, new VITA In-Ceram YZ material (Yttrium-stabilized Zirconia) results in all-ceramic substructures so strong (900 Mpa +) they have been dubbed “CERAMIC STEEL“.
This powerful combination of technology, software and materials means complete reliability and flexibility to meet patient and dentist expectations.

Anterior and Posterior Crowns and Bridges: VITA In-Ceram YZ yttrium-stabilized ZIRCONIA is the result of years of technical innovation and offers as high a strength as metal-supported crowns and bridges. YZ offers the highest flexural strength of any “all-ceramic” system but with the esthetics of VITA In-Ceram SPINELL.
It is a truly remarkable material.
Due to its incredible strength, VITA In-Ceram YZ enables more delicate frameworks to be created, leaving more room for creative ceramic work. VITA In-Ceram YZ boasts a 900+ MPa flexural strength and fracture toughness of 5.9MPa/√m
Advantage to Dentist: Less intrusive dentistry can be adopted, taking full advantage of the materials strength and superb esthetics.
VITA In-Ceram – efficient CAD/CAM processing: The esthetics and vitality of a tooth is primarily a function of the mix between translucent and opaque layers, which affects its ability to deflect and absorb light in different places. VITA In-Ceram provides more translucency than metal and reflects light more naturally, but is opaque enough to hide metal pins.
The VITAVM7 and VITAVM9 range of ceramic materials used to build onto In-Ceram frameworks are based on the NEW generation of shade guides namely the VITA SYSTEM 3D-MASTER shade system, which provides astonishing accuracy from shade determination to finished restoration. By choosing the right VITA In-Ceram or VITA In-Ceram BLANKS for CEREC® core material (SPINELL, ALUMINA, ZIRCONIA and YZ CUBES), selecting the correct shade using the VITA SYSTEM 3D-MASTER shade guide and insisting that your laboratory use VITAVM® ceramics, you can assure that your patients receive the very best of leading-edge materials available today.
Using VITA In-Ceram® Means:
- No ugly gingival recession due to gingiva/metal reaction
- No exposed metal margin
- No risk of galvanic current
- Ability to withstand high functional stress
- No thermal conductivity discomfort
This combination is sure to be a winning formula for a happy and satisfied patient.
Clinical aspects
- Zirconium dioxide has been used in the field of hip-joint prosthetics for roughly 30 years. It exhibits very high strength, high corrosion resistance and low thermal conductivity.
- The structure and the veneering material are both biocompatible and do not have any allergic potential.
Radiopacity: Zirconium dioxide ceramic is radiopaque.
General preparation information: The preparation can be carried out either using a chamfer or a shoulder preparation with rounded interior angle. A circular cutting depth of one millimeter is required. The vertical preparation angle should be 3∞, however, parallel preparation is also possible if clinically required. All transitions from the axial towards the occlusal surfaces must be rounded.

Shoulder preparation, Chamfer preparation

Incorrect chamfer preparation
Preparation of pre-molars and molars
For posterior teeth a simplified occlusal relief should be prepared to provide more space for the ceramic. In the occlusal area at least 1.5 mm of substance should be removed.

Preparation of anterior teeth
The incisal area of anterior teeth should be reduced by 2mm.
Cementation Information
Restorations made of VITA In-Ceram® YZ CUBES for CEREC® are suitable for non-adhesive cementation with glass ionomer or zinc phosphate cements or adhesive bonding with the self-hardening PANAVIA 21 TC or the dual-hardening PANAVIA F (Kuraray).
Pretreatment of the zirconium doxide restorations prior to adhesive fixation:
- Sandblast the inner surfaces of the restoration using aluminium oxide (max. 50 μm) at a pressure of 2.5 bar. Avoid contact with the cleaned surface.
- Etching with hydrofluoric acid is not possible. Silanizing is not required.
- Please observe the instructions for use of the manufacturer of the adhesive materials.Removal of integrated restorations. In the event of a crown having to be removed it is recommended to use a cylindrical diamond instrument at a speed of 120,00 rpm while ensuring maximum cooling with water.
